NORTH MIAMI BEACH, Fla. and BANGOR – Gerold A. Laing, 79, passed away July 1, 2004. He was born Dec. 14, 1924, in Brewer, to Sada (Taylor) and Joseph Howard Laing Sr. He grew up on Harthorn Avenue in Bangor and graduated from Bangor High School. Gerold’s professional life was in banking in both, San Francisco, Calif., and Tampa and Miami, Fla. He was well respected in his field and made numerous friends. Each summer he returned to Maine to enjoy the beauty and solitude of the family camp at Nicatous Lake. There he spent many happy hours listening to classical music and enjoying his library of books. Gerold was a gentle and kind man who appreciated these qualities in others. He leaves two brothers who live in Bangor, Joseph Howard Laing Jr. and Dr. Edmund Laing and his wife, Edna. He also had several nieces and a nephew who live in Maine. He was predeceased by a nephew, Joseph Howard Laing, III. A memorial service will be held in the fall at the camp on Nicatous Lake. Those who wish may donate in his memory to the Bangor Public Library or to the library of their choice.
