CALAIS – Gertraud Brownlee Cookson, 59, died Saturday, April 29, 2006, at her residence. Gertraud was born Aug. 17, 1946, in Austria, daughter of Alois and Maria Eder. She was employed as a cook for the Calais High School cafeteria. Gertraud married Gerald Cookson July 15, 1989. She was a Catholic by faith, and enjoyed playing cards and bowling. Gertraud was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit No. 3 of Calais and the St. Croix Bowling Club. She was predeceased by her father, Alois Eder. Surviving are her husband of 16 years, Gerald; her mother, Maria Eder of Austria; two daughters, Frauke Davis of Mount Terrance, Wash. and Petra Dow and husband, Philip Jr., of Calais; a stepson, Dana Cookson and wife, Miranda, of Robbinston; a stepdaughter, Karie Kelly and husband, Ryan, of Massachusetts; a sister, Erika; and a brother, Reinhold, both of Austria; three grandchildren, Philip III, Christopher and Amanda Dow; step-grandsons, Tyler and Anthony Cookson; many nieces and nephews; and her faithful canine companion, Ginger.
