BANGOR – Gertrude “Honey” (Wood) Allen, 87, wife of the late Guy Allen for 58 years, died peacefully March 15, 2005, at the Maine Veterans’ Home in Bangor, after a long illness. She was born Feb. 23, 1918, in Brewer, the daughter of the late Earl and Marion (Maynard) Wood. Honey worked as a waitress at Helen’s Restaurant and the old Sears Canteen. But most of all she dedicated her life to her husband, Guy, grandchildren, and all the children, that she took care of, who knew her as “the block mother” of Dillingham Street in Bangor. Gertrude is survived by her daughter, Sandra M. Boyce of Wells River, Vt.; granddaughters, Laurie J. Ford, of Bangor, Lori Travis and her husband, Michael, of Stow, Mass.; grandsons, Donald Ford and his wife, Lynn, of Bangor, Steven Boyce and his wife, Rita, of Wells River, Vt.; great- grandchildren, Nicole Ford, Monica Clark, Phillip Douglas, Nicholas and Joseph Travis, Colby and Drew Boyce, and Heather Dunphy; one great- great-grandchild, Vaughn Stevenson III; sister, Mildred Bradgon; brothers, Raymond and Joe Wood; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Guy; brothers, Robert and Earl Wood. Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, March 21, 2005, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, with the Rev. Robert T. Carlson, Chaplain Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office, officiating. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until time of service. Interment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Bangor. Relatives and friends are invited to share conversation and refreshments at the Brookings-Smith Family Center, 163 Center St., Bangor, immediately following the services.
