FORT FAIRFIELD and OCALA, Fla. – Gilbert G. “Bud” MacNaughton, 81, husband of Patricia (Cormier) MacNaughton, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday afternoon, May 21, 2008, at a Presque Isle health care facility. He was born June 28, 1926, in Fort Fairfield, the son of Vaughn and Elva (Grant) MacNaughton. Bud was educated in the Fort Fairfield, Bangor and Brewer school systems and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, where he achieved the rank of boatswain’s mate grade 3. He was married to Patricia Cormier, April 21, 1947, and owned and operated the Levi Gulliver and Sons Co., Fort Fairfield, for many years until his retirement in 1986, due to a massive stroke. Bud was a member of American Legion Walter Lovely Post No. 27, Fort Fairfield and a life member of Fort Fairfield Lions Club, where he served in various capacities, including president. Bud was an avid outdoorsman who greatly enjoyed fishing, hunting, ice fishing and trips to the camp in Allagash. He loved to travel and completed several cruises, and had spent the winter months with his wife, Pat, in Ocala, Fla., for the past 22 years. Bud was also very fond of his daily trips to Arby’s. Mr. MacNaughton was predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Mrs. Patricia MacNaughton of Fort Fairfield and Ocala, Fla.; one son, Rick MacNaughton of Ocala, Fla.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Diane and Ken McCleary of Bobtown, Pa., and Ann and Mark Baker of Caribou; six grandchildren, Isaac and Amanda McCleary, both of West Virginia, Jacob McCleary of Pennsylvania, Ryan MacNaughton of Clearwater, Fla., Justin Baker of New Mexico and Matthew Baker of Caribou; three great-grandchildren, Kenton and Kayle Cole and Makayla MacNaughton; and one cousin, Glenn Grant of Oceanside, Calif. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Saturday, May 24, at Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield. The funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, May 25, at the funeral home with the Rev. Diane Langworthy officiating. Interment with military honors will be held at St. Denis Catholic Cemetery, Fort Fairfield. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments will be held immediately after the interment service at St. Denis Catholic Church reception area, 147 Main St., Fort Fairfield.
