CARIBOU – Gladys H. Ruth, 81, died May 31, 2007, in Van Buren. She was born June 11, 1925, in Fort Fairfield, the daughter of Edward and Alice (Page) LeVasseur. Gladys married John Ruth, March 11, 1949. Mrs. Ruth was employed by the Birds Eye Division of General Foods, Caribou. She was a very active member of the Henry B. Pratt Post 15 American Legion Auxiliary as well as the Lister-Knowlton Post 9389 VFW Ladies Auxiliary. After having lost a son in the Vietnam War, the title of Gold Star Mother was bestowed upon her, which she was most proud of. Gladys volunteered many hours at the Maine Veterans’ Home. She was a social butterfly and enjoyed life to its fullest. She will be fondly remembered for her fine crochet and needlepoint projects. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Ruth and David Bouchard of Caribou; two sisters, Lillian Muse and Beatrice McDougal; four grandchildren, C. John Mace, and wife, Paula, Angela Heiliger and her husband, Josh, Matthew and Andrew Bouchard; two great-grandchildren, Chance Plummer and Emma Heiliger. Mrs. Ruth was predeceased by her husband, John, June 1, 1992; and two sons, Dana and Virgil Mace. Friends may call 11 a.m. Monday, June 4, until time of services which will be held 1 p.m. at Mockler Funeral Home 24 Reservoir St., Caribou, with the Rev. Jean-Paul Labrie, officiating.
