WINTERPORT – Glenice Evelyn (Lowe) Wellman, 82, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family, May 5, 2004 at her home in Winterport. She was a lifelong resident of Winterport and was born there, Sept. 18, 1921, the daughter of Oliver and Lelia (Leach) Lowe. Glenice was educated in Winterport schools and was a 1938 graduate of Winterport High School. During her life she had worked at Hampden Evans Shoe, Viner Shoe and for many years was the bookkeeper for her husband’s paving business, Wellman Paving of Winterport. She enjoyed cooking, knitting and watching Little League baseball games. She also enjoyed her animals, in particular her dog, Reagan. Glenice spent many enjoyable hours caring for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her primary focus in life was always her family. She leaves a legacy of love for her family, and will be remembered as a wonderful, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Glenice was predeceased by her husband of 51 years, Raymond “Billy” Wellman in 1993. She was one of 10 children and was the last surviving child of Oliver and Lelia Lowe. She is survived by a son, Galen Wellman and his wife, Debra, of Winterport; three daughters, Evelyn Adams and her husband, Richard, of Frankfort, Marilyn Wellman of Bangor and Sharon Wellman of Winterport; seven grandchildren, Rick Adams and wife, Tammy, Tim Adams and wife, Pam, Ron Rideout and wife, Paula, Jodi Lewis and husband, Mark, Jill Hathaway and husband, Tim, Kelly Anderson, and husband, Kyle and Sarah B. Wellman; four great-grandchildren, Michael and Nathan Adams and Caleb and Maggie Hathaway; many nieces and nephews and two special friends, Eleanor Wellman and Marilyn Worcester. Visiting hours will be held 6-8 p.m. Friday at the Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden. A graveside service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday at Oak Hill Cemetery, Winterport, with Pastor Meg Watson, pastor of the Frankfort Congregational Church officiating.
