BELFAST – Glennys G. Littlefield of Swanville passed away on Oct. 31, 2003, at Tall Pines Healthcare Facility in Belfast at the age of 86. She was born on May 13, 1917, in Belfast, the daughter of Martin and Lena Gray. Glennys lived and worked in the Belfast area all of her life. She spent many years working for Waldo Shoe and Truitt Brothers Shoe before her retirement. In addition, she and her husband operated a small farm for more than 40 years, raising cows, chickens, and horses as well as huge vegetable gardens. Glennys was always a strong and independent woman. After her retirement she was happiest when working in her vegetable garden, cooking for family and friends, doing embroidery, reading and visiting with family and friends. Following a massive stroke in September of 2002, she spent the last year of her life at Tall Pines Healthcare in Belfast where she received kind, loving and professional care from a staff of dedicated caregivers. Special recognition also goes to the medical practitioner at Searsport Family Practice who always treated her with respect and conscientious care. She was predeceased by her sisters, Christine and Doris Gray and Alice Brackett; granddaughter, Sharon Nickerson; and in 1990 her beloved husband of 54 years, Elmer Littlefield. She is survived by her only child, Barbara Grass and husband, Merle; her sister, Alberta Rumney; niece, Wilma Moses, all of Belfast; her granddaughter, Jane Brown and husband, Charles; step-great-grandson, Robert of Hull, Texas; granddaughter, Susan Lessard of Hampden; great-grandsons, Mark Lessard and his wife, Melanie of Ellsworth and Patrick Lessard and his wife, Krisitin, of Orland; step-grandchildren, Troy and Stephanie Grass and family of Eddington, Carol and John Kelley and family of Waldo, Ardette and David Spear of Bar Harbor; as well as many other cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. There will be no visiting hours. A graveside service will be held 10 a.m. Nov. 5, 2003, at Grover Cemetery in Belfast. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Glennys Littlefield Garden Fund at Tall Pines Healthcare Facility in Belfast.
