MATTAWAMKEAG – Gloria L. Coombs, 75, died April 26, 2007, at a Lincoln hospital. She was born April 18, 1932, in Vanceboro, to David and Sarah (Smith) Hunter. Gloria loved to help people and she did so whenever she had the chance. She enjoyed children and spent more than 35 years as secretary at the Dr. Carl Troutt School, Mattawamkeag. She also ran the Mattawamkeag Recreation Department for many years. Gloria is survived by her son, Mike Coombs of Mattawamkeag; and special friends, Betty Hay, Kathy Gagnon, Connie Cahill, Barbara Elward and Kathy Reardon. Gloria will also be missed by her family of kitties. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, George “Donny” Coombs; a brother, David Hunter; a sister, Eleanor Hunter; and a baby brother, Sharlon. Friends may call 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Friday, May 4, at the funeral home with the Rev. Leon Robinson officiating. Interment will be later in the spring at Mattawamkeag Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, folks may donate in Gloria’s name to the United Methodist Church of Mattawamkeag.
