EAST MILLINOCKET – Gordon “Lennie” Wallace, 81, passed away on Monday, Oct. 4, 2004, at a Lincoln hospital. He was born Nov. 25, 1922, in Howland, the son of Gordon and Ellen (Lugdon) Wallace. Lennie was a graduate of Howland High School, Class of 1940, and, after graduation, worked for the A & P Company. It was at this time he answered the call to his country to serve in the U.S. Army during World War II. He returned home April 1946 and took a position in the finishing room office at the Great Northern Paper Co. In 1958, Lennie began a business career by opening Lennie’s Superette in Medway and continued to work at the family business until his retirement in September 1981. After his retirement, he and his wife, Geraldine, spent many happy winters in Florida and summers at Cedar Lake. In 1996, when Lennie’s health would no longer allow extensive travel to Florida, they made East Millinocket their permanent residence. Lennie enjoyed his business, reading, going for rides, camp, and most of all, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a member and Past Commander of Pheeney Groves Post No. 13, American Legion, East Millinocket, a Past Commander of the Penobscot County Chapter of the American Legion, and a member of Frances E. Elliott Post No. 4154 VFW, Millinocket. He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Geraldine (Brewer) Wallace of East Millinocket; a son and daughter-in-law, James and Peggy Wallace of Medway; a daughter, Susan Grisham of Madison, Tenn.; a daughter-in-law, Mitzi Wallace of Ridgely, Maryland; grandchildren, Jamie and Michelle Wallace, Kim and Bob Lyons, Mark and Leslie Wallace, Topher Wallace, Melody Grisham, and Kevin Grisham; great-grandchildren, Josh, Morgan, Whitney, Heather, Jared, Devon, Darrin, Storm, Joseph and Madison; his siblings, Gerald and wife, Florence Wallace, of Meriden, Conn., Bill and wife, Cecilia, of Thomaston, Theresa and husband, Gordon Gervais, of East Millinocket, Ellen and husband, Everett Danforth, of Bangor, Frank and wife, Alice Wallace, of East Millinocket, Rita Flemming of Thomaston, Gloris and husband, Charles Jones, of Millinocket, and Ronnie and wife, Imogene, of Passadumkeag; many nieces and nephews. Lennie was predeceased by his parents, a son and daughter-in-law, Jere and Bonnie Wallace; brothers, Donald Wallace and Sheldon, and wife, Alice Wallace. Friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at R.L. Bouchard Funeral Home, 17 Western Ave., East Millinocket. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 8, 2004, at the First Congregational Church of East Millinocket with The Rev. Carolyn Bradley officiating.
