ORLAND – Gregory E. Gray, 54, died June 21, 2008, at Blue Hill Memorial Hospital, after a long battle with cancer. He was born June 28, 1953, in Jonesport, the son of Robert D. and Lena E. (Emerson) Gray. Gregory graduated from Jonesport-Beals High School in 1971 and graduated Summa Cum Laude, first in class from the University of Maine at Machias. Gregory’s greatest love was teaching. He taught school at Jonesport Elementary; MSAD 37, Harrington; Columbia Falls Elementary, acting principal; Trenton Elementary, principal; Jonesport Primary and Pembroke Consolidated. He was president of MSAD 37 Teachers’ Association, 1991-1992, and secretary of MSAD 37 Teachers’ Association, 1992-1993 and 1993-1994. He held the following offices in the Washington County Teachers’ Association, vice president, 1979-1980; president, 1981-1982; president elect, 1980-1981; and past president, 1982-1983. Gregory was vice president of Moosabec Teachers’ Association, 1979-1980. Gregory was a member of Maine State Department of Educational and Cultural Services’ program review team at the University of Maine at Machias. In 2000, he was nominated by a former student for Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers. Gregory is survived by his mother, Lena (Emerson) Lemmon; brother, Robert D. Gray and wife, Susan; sister, Georgianna Hatt, all of Addison; life time companion, David Conary of Orland; aunts, Hilda Woodward, Geraldine Moore and Louise Emerson, all of Columbia Falls; uncle, Delmont Emerson and wife, Marie, of Addison; eight nieces and nephews, Bobbi Sue, Elizabeth, Kayli, Kim, Erika, Jessica, Almond Jr. and Vernald; several great-nieces, great-nephews, many cousins and many dear friends. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, July 12, at Columbia Falls Elementary School. Contributions in Gregory’s memory may be made to Hancock County Home Care & Hospice, P.O.
