BREWER and BANGOR – Greta J. Bernatche, 72, wife of Donald A. Bernatche Sr., died unexpectedly May 16, 2005, at home. She was born Sept. 7, 1932, in Bangor, the daughter of Harry and Mabel A. (McAllister) Schneider. Greta attended Bangor schools. She married Don in 1949 and was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was employed at St. John’s Rectory for 17 years; enjoying mothering the many priests she served. She was a life-long member of St. John’s Women Council, a Literacy Volunteer, taught St. John’s CCD, was involved in RCIA and was a Eucharistic Minister. She loved to garden and made quilts for all her children and grandchildren. She was happiest when spending time with her family. She is survived by her children, Katherine Pluff and husband, Joseph, Linda Mullen and husband, James, Mary Crawford and husband, Richard, Joseph Bernatche, Teresa Bernatche and fianc?, Ryne Giddings, Michael Bernatche and wife, Joanne, Anthony Bernatche and wife, Joan; grandchildren, Christopher Steeves and wife, Michelle, Heidi Steeves, Rosemary Kauffman and husband, Michael, Kate Bernatche, Anthony Bernatche, Brian Bernatche; stepgrandchildren, Allen Holt, Allyson Leeman, Jillian Leeman, Maryanne Pluff, Jennifer Pluff, Katherine and Sarah Mullen, Michael, James, and Carol Jean Remeschatis; great-grandchildren, Crawford and Aidan Steeves; brother, Irving Schneider and wife, Betty; sister, Jeanette Rimpo and husband, Charles, sister, Eleanor Ladd, sister, Carrie Sabin; and special friends, Mildred Tracy, Joanne and Mike York. Thanks to a special neighbor, Jeff Ary. She was predeceased by Donald Bernatche Jr., Jacqueline Bernatche; brother, Karl Schneider; grandsons, Joseph Bernatche and Robert Jordan. Relatives and friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Foley Funeral Services, 299 Union St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 1 p.m. Friday at St. John’s Catholic Church. Interment will be in Mount Pleasant Catholic Cemetery.
