MEREDITH, N.H. – Guida Wardwell Martin, 76, of 69 Hawk Ridge Road, succumbed to ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease) at her home on Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2004. She was born Aug. 29, 1927, in Orland, the daughter of H. Robert and Una (Hutchins) Wardwell. Mrs. Martin and Ralph, her husband of more than 52 years, came to Meredith in 1998 from Belfast. She and her husband traveled extensively after his retirement in 1992 as a vice president of Raytheon Co. At various times during his career, they lived in Bristol, R.I., Chelmsford, Mass. and London, England. In addition to her husband, Ralph, of Meredith; she is survived by a daughter, Judith Shoemaker and husband, George Shoemaker, of Bristol, R.I.; two sons, Robert and wife, Bonnie, of Nashua, N.H. and Richard of Merrimack, N.H.; two brothers; two sisters; nine grandchildren; three cousins and an aunt. She was predeceased by a brother, Richard Wardwell. Calling hours will be held 3-6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 21 in the Carriage House of the Wilkinson-Beane Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant St., Laconia, N.H. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 22, 2004 at the Laconia Congregational Church, 18 Veterans Square, Laconia, N.H. The Rev. David Travers, Interim Senior Pastor of the Church will officiate. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2004, at the Orland Methodist Church, Orland. Burial will be in the family lot at Oak Grove Cemetery, Orland.
