MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Gwendolyn Mardin (Trefethen) Haynes, 96, died Dec. 29, 2006, at Montgomery, Ala. Mrs. Haynes was born April 17, 1910, in Waterville. She graduated from Deering High School, Portland, in 1928 and from Colby College, Waterville, in 1932. She was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority. In 1964 she received a Master of Arts degree in French from Middlebury College, Ver-mont. She taught in several Maine towns including, Waldoboro High School, Potter Academy, Sebago, Foxcroft Academy, Dover-Foxcroft and Traip Academy, Kittery, before her retirement in 1970. After retirement she lived in Sarasota. Fla., and Bradenton, Fla., before moving to Montgomery, Ala., in 1997. She is survived by a sister, Mrs. Marie M. Hamilton of Ocala, Fla.; a brother and sister-in-law, James and Bettie Mardin of Portland; three sons, Robert T. Trefethen of Montgomery, Ala., Michael W. Trefethen of Las Vegas and William J. Trefethen of Green Valley, Ariz.; and grandchildren. After cremation her remains will be interred in Needham, Mass.
