ROCKWOOD and NEWPORT Harold L. Hanson, 76, died Dec. 2, 2004, at his Rockwood residence. He was born Dec. 22, 1927, at Newport a son of Freeman and Grace (Spaulding) Hanson. He attended Newport High School, but left school to join the U.S. Army during World War II. After the war he worked a number of years at the Great Northern Paper Company mill in Millinocket. After returning to the Newport-Pittsfield area he worked for many years at the Ethan Allen Chair Factory in Burnham until his retirement. In his later years he continued to work summers operating the Moose Boat for The Birches on Moosehead Lake. He was predeceased by his wife, Barbara (Peasley) Hanson. Harold is survived by a brother and his wife, Rodney and Nellie Hanson; and a sister and husband, Anita and Donald Hewins, all of Newport; as well as several nieces and nephews. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Crosby & Neal Funeral Home, 117 Main St., Newport, where funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 8, with the Rev. George Darling officiating. Burial will be in the Pittsfield Village Cemetery.
