HANCOCK – Harold L. Hitchcock Sr., 71, died Monday July 5, 2004, at a Bangor hospital. He was born Feb. 27, 1933, in Limestone, the son of Ira and Pauline (LeGasse) Hitchcock. Harold was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the Korean War. He was a stonemason by trade, and was employed by L.E. Norwood and Son of Bar Harbor for 20 years. Harold was a member of VFW Post No. 109 of Ellsworth, American Legion Post No. 207 in Trenton, and Mount Desert Lodge No. 140, AF & AM. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Louise B. (Miller) Hitchcock of Hancock; three children, Maude Wedge and her husband, Russell, and Deborah Wedge, all of Cranberry Isles, and Harold L. Hitchcock Jr. and his wife, Brenda, of Bar Harbor; six grandchildren, Joseph, Kandance, Keith, Heath, Vaughn, and Zeke; two great-grandchildren, Austin and Madison; three sisters, Betty O’Neal and her husband, Mark, of Grand Falls, Canada, Marge Barber and her husband, Jack, and Ginger McKay and her husband, Bill, all of New York; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Harold was predeceased by a son-in-law, Keith Wedge; a brother, Gene Hitchcock; and three sisters, Nora Gardner, Geraldine Christi, and Loretta Bellefleur. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Friday at the Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, 215 Main St., Ellsworth, with the Rev. John L. Dunn Jr. officiating.
