MILBRIDGE – Harold Wesley Chipman Jr., 84, passed away Jan. 25, 2008, at his daughter’s home in Surry. He was born Oct. 17, 1923, in Melrose, Mass., the son of Harold and Dorothy (Wallace) Chipman. As a child, Harold and his family moved to Milbridge. He was educated in Milbridge schools then entered the U.S. Army. He was a veteran of World War II and enjoyed telling stories of his time spent in the service in New Guinea and the Philippines. Harold spent time working in construction and helped to build St. Joseph Hospital, Bangor. He also spent time lobster fishing and in later years, was happy serving as a sternman for his grandson, Jason. He was employed for many years by L. Ray Packing, sailing the coast on board the sardine carrier the Gary Allen. He was predeceased by his wife, Irene, in August 2004; as well as one brother, Wallace; and three sisters, Ruth Kelley, Phyllis Strout and Barbara Carter. He is survived by his children, John and Cathy Chipman, Roger “Cappy” Chipman, Raymond Chipman and companion, Sandy Trafton, all of Milbridge, Linda Robbins and her husband, Gary, of Harrington, Yvonne Kurtz and husband, John, of Surry and Debbie Brooks and her husband, Robert of Brookfield, Conn.; 10 grandchildren, Chris Chipman and his wife, Monica, Jason Chipman and his wife, Amity, Forrest and Darren Robbins, Danielle Fink and her husband, William, Ryan and Cory Kurtz, Christina, Bobby and Katrina Brooks; one great-grandchild, Maverick Chipman; one brother, Thomas; three sisters, Ginger Ellis, Sally Vi Chipman and Nellie Nelson; several nieces, nephews, special friends and neighbors.
