MEDDYBUMPS and CRYSTAL RIVER, Fla. – Harry L. Vose, 79, passed away June 25, 2006, at Shands Hospital University of Florida, Gainesville, Fla., surrounded by his family. He was born June 12, 1927, in Saint Stephens, New Brunswick, Canada. Harry was raised in Eastport. During World War II, Harry served in the U.S. Navy as a radar technician aboard several ships. While on leave in 1945, he met the love of his life, Eleanor Leith, in Hampton Beach, N.H. Harry and Ellie had been married for 61 years. In 1947, their daughter, Linda, was born and the family relocated to Hyattsville, Md. It was here that Harry began his career with the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission as a surveyor. In 1951, their second child, Theresa, was born. Harry retired in 1975 and returned to Eastport, with his wife. There he began a long and distinguished political career serving the State of Maine. He was also a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. Harry is survived by his wife, Ellie; his daughters, Linda and Theresa; his sister, Ruth; and stepbrothers, Robert and Donald; his five grand-daughters, Tessa, Joanna, Lynn, Laurie and Eleanore; and finally a long awaited boy, his great-grandson, Ben; many nieces and nephews. Harry knew he was losing his battle for life. Consequently, he was able to say a loving good-bye to his family and to make his final wishes known. There will be no service. It was Harry’s wish to be cremated. He would like to wait for his wife, Ellie, and be buried with her in the family plot in Eastport. He said, “I have had a wonderful life, so don’t feel sorrow for me.” And finally, he wanted to tell all of his friends, both Democrats and Republicans that in lieu of flowers, just vote Democrat!
