WATERVILLE – Harvey J. Mosher, 85, of Oakland, died Sunday, Jan. 4, 2004, at Maine General Medical Center, Thayer Unit. He was born Sept. 21, 1918, in Portland, a son of Fred M. and Annie L. (Hall) Mosher. Harvey worked for New England Telephone & Telegraph for 32 years, starting as an Installer and eventually became a foreman. He worked in Hollingsworth and Whitney, where he met his wife, Phyllis (Libby) Mosher of 64 years. Harvey was a 48-year member of the Dirago Lodge in Weeks Mills then transferred to Waterville, and he was a veteran of World War II. Harvey was very active as a founding member of the Telephone Pioneers infant hearing program that tested newborn babies, a member of the Kennebec Council of the Telephone Pioneers, president of the Life Member Club of the Telephone Pioneers and life member representative of the retired telephone workers, and was a diligent worker for the telephone pioneer mitten project which over the years distributed thousands of pairs of mittens to state wide school children. He was a volunteer fireman for many years in Winslow, president of the Howard Cemetery Association of Winslow, a founding member of the Winslow band Boosters club, and active in the Waterville Chordsman Barbershop Chorus and Quartet. An avid hunter and fisherman, he was especially fond of fishing at Unity Pond with his buddy, Nick Scoby. Surviving along with his wife, Phyllis (Libby) Mosher of Oakland, are two children, Dana Mosher and his wife, Terry, of Hermon, Carol and her husband, Merle Cowperthwaite, of Oakland; two brothers, Preston and Williston Mosher, both of South China; four grandchildren, Amy and Lindsey Mosher and Paul and Scott Kenison; five great-grandchildren, Tayler, Luke, Holli, Hanna, Sarah Kenison. Visiting hours will be held 6-9 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 8, 2004, at Redington Funeral Home, 5 Park St., Waterville. A Masonic service will be held 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 9, 2004, at Pleasant Street United Methodist Church, Waterville. Spring interment will be in the Howard Cemetery, Winslow.
