CORINTH and BLACK RIVER, N.Y. – Hazel (Amazeen) Dunham, 72, wife of the late Eugene “Ted” Dunham, died peacefully March 7, 2007, at Carthage Hospital, Carthage, N.Y., after a long battle with cancer. She was born June 3, 1934, in Garland, the daughter of Ivory and Ida (Packard) Amazeen. Hazel was a former member of the Rebekah’s and a Golden Sheaf – 50-year member of the Garland Grange, and a member of the West Penobscot Pomona, state and national granges. She had fond memories of caring for her daycare kids in Corinth before her move to Black River, N.Y., about 13 years ago. She was active doing volunteer work for the Black River Elementary School Library and doing puzzles, making bears, etc., for the area children. She is survived by a son, Ronald and his wife, Amanda, of Corinth; a daughter, Arlene and her husband, Dr. Frank Harvey, of Black River, N.Y.; a grandson, Derek; and three granddaughters, Lindsey, Carlie and Jessica and her husband, Josh; a brother, Everett and his wife, Corice, of Garland; five sisters-in-law, Madeline Patterson of Corinth, Dorothy Minott of Ellsworth, Natalie Harris of Milo, Carol Dunham of Corinth and Marjorie Dunham of Winterport; a brother-in-law, Charles Dunham and his wife, Peggy, of Louisiana; several nieces and nephews. A celebration of life will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, March 25, at Garland Grange Hall. A graveside memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, May 26, at Corinthian Cemetery, Corinth. Those who wish may make donations in Hazel’s memory to the Black River Ambulance Service, LeRay St., Black River, NY 13612. Local arrangements are by the Thompson Funeral Home, 17 Hudson Road, Corinth.
