BANGOR – Hazel C. (Coffin) Springer, 91, wife of the late Philip A. Springer died Dec. 8, 2005, at her home in Bangor. She was born Dec. 21, 1913, in Harrington, the daughter of John Leslie and Mary (Perry) Coffin. She graduated from Ellsworth High School, Gorham Teachers College and the University of Maine. She was a school teacher for over 30 years, starting in Ellsworth, Waterville and spent the last 20 years of her career at Mary Snow School in Bangor, retiring in 1973. She was a member of the Retired Teacher Association, the Maine Education Association, Penobscot Teacher Association and Delta Kappa Gamma. Surviving are a daughter, Linda S. McLaughlin and her husband, Bruce C. McLaughlin, of Searsmont; granddaughter, Lori M. Gibbons and her husband, Joseph W. Gibbons, of Ellsworth; granddaughter, Kate M. Craig and her husband, Jason T. Craig, of Eddington; a great-grandson, Aidan Joseph Gibbons of Ellsworth and another great-grandson who is on the way; a niece, Judith (Coffin) Owens of Alexandra, Va.; a special cousin and friend, Clara L. Swan of Hampden; good friends, Jan Mixer, Lila Richmond and Frances Mitchell, all of Bangor; longtime friend, Alenia Kalloch of Melbourne, Fla. She was predeceased by her husband of 30 years, Philip A. Springer in 1965; her mother, father and a brother who passed away in 1941, J. Leslie Coffin Jr. who was born the day one war ended and died the day the next war began. At her request there will be no funeral service. Internment will be held in the spring at the Bayview Cemetery in Franklin. A service of Brookings-Smith, Bangor.
