BANGOR and WESTBROOK Hazel June (Hemberg) Cunningham, 91, wife of the late John Clarence Cunningham, died June 6, 2004, at the home of her daughter in Westbrook, following a brief battle with lung cancer. She was born June 2, 1913, in New Sweden, the daughter of John and Emma (Pierson) Hemberg. She moved to Bangor at the age of 13 months. She graduated from Bangor High School in 1932, and was married to John Clarence Cunningham in March of 1933. She loved to travel and spent time in Middletown, Pa., and three years in Anchorage, Alaska, with her daughter and son-in-law in the 1960s. While in Pennsylvania, she graduated from beauty school. Hazel was an avid bridge player, playing up to June of this year. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Sally (Fudala) and Roger Miles of Westbrook; one grandson, John and Karen Fudala of Cheshire, Conn.; four great-grandchildren, John C., Jennifer and Matthew Fudala of Verona, Wis., Allison Saffiotti of Cheshire, Conn.; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by four brothers and three sisters. Friends may call 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, with Pastor Arthur Cotton, officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, Brewer.
