PEORIA, Ariz. – Helen Ann (Horyn) McCarthy, 82, passed away Dec. 12, 2007, of lung cancer, at Hospice of the Valley. She was born Dec. 9, 1925, in Brooklyn, N.Y., the daughter of Catherine and Joseph Horyn. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting, was a Red Hatter, and volunteered at a local hospital. She was a people person. She was predeceased by her husband, John A. McCarthy; her son, Dennis McCarthy; and a brother, Julian Horyn. She is survived by her children, Maureen Passarello, John, Michael and Brian McCarthy; eight grandchildren; and sisters, Jeanette McDermott and Stella Andrews. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Scalia Funeral Home, Staten Island, N.Y. She will be buried next to her husband at Moravian Cemetery.
