HOWLAND – Helen Dawson, 67, wife of 49 years to Phillip Dawson Sr., died Oct. 24, 2004, at a Lincoln hospital, after a long illness. She was born July 14, 1937, in East Meadow, Long Island, N.Y., the daughter of Peter and Frances Panse. Helen was a graduate of Hempstead High School, Hempstead, N.Y. On April 17, 1955, she married Phillip Dawson Sr., and resided in Howland for 49 years. Helen was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family, especially holidays, and following her children and their children in school and sports activities. Surviving are her husband of 49 years, Phillip L Dawson Sr.; three sons and their wives, Phillip L. Dawson Jr. and his wife, Janet, Dwight A. Dawson and his wife, Carol, and Brian P. Dawson and his wife, Karen, all of Howland; a daughter, Debora L. (Dawson) Jordan and her husband, Daniel, of Waltham; grandchildren, Brandie (Dawson) Smith and her husband, Dan, of Enfield, Rachael (Dawson) Hallett and her husband, Bruce, of Bucksport, Larry Ellis and his wife, Jill, of Bangor, Sarah Dawson of Bucksport, Scott Ellis of Bangor, Ashley Dawson, Brooke Dawson, Derek Dawson, Erin Dawson, and Kristie Dawson, all of Howland; great-grandchildren, Anaraivyn and Tierairis Smith of Enfield, and Tyler Hallett of Bucksport; three brothers, Peter Panse and his wife, Irene, of Douglassville, Ga., Richard Panse of West Jupiter, Fla., and George Panse of Pompano Beach; two sisters, Frances Gibbons of Port St. Lucie, Fla., and Carlene Josephson of Leavittown, N.Y. At Helen’s request, visitation will be private, and a private service will be held at the Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln, with the Rev. Gerry Dill, pastor of Maine Coast Baptist Church, Ellsworth, where Debora is a member, officiating. Interment will be in Howland Cemetery.
