WINTHROP – Helen E. Carter, 83, a resident of Wilson Pond Road, North Monmouth, died Friday morning, Jan. 20, 2006, at Winthrop Manor Nursing Home in Winthrop, where she had been a patient for seven years. She was born Jan. 23, 1922, in Greenville, the daughter of Leo and Nellie (Brett) Hubbard. She graduated from Greenville High School and then attended Farmington Normal School. Helen married Elwin “Babe” Carter on April 21, 1941. He passed away June 8, 1990. Helen and Babe resided in Durham for many years where they raised their four sons. She and Babe ran the Lisbon Bowling Center for many years. She then worked at W.D. Matthews in the office. Helen enjoyed gardening, cooking and was very involved church activities. She loved having her children and grandchildren around her. She would always make special time for each and everyone. She was loved by all that knew her. Helen was a very special person who became her parents and her in-laws caregiver. She did not stop there, her brother-in-law, Alan also resided with them for several years, until he passed away in 1992. Even in retirement, she assisted her son, Brett with his business Concrete Craftsmen, doing a variety of jobs. She will be sadly missed by all that knew her. She is survived by four sons, Vincent of Durham, Brett and his wife, Patty, of North Monmouth, Doug and his wife, Maryrose, of Winthrop and Greg and his wife, Kim, of Durham; 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by two brothers, Harold “Pat” and John Hubbard; and a sister, Ida Cooper.
