MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – Hel-en Hammond Dornish, 104, passed away peacefully March 28, 2008, in Middletown, Conn., after a short illness. Helen was born Sept. 4, 1903, in Saint Marys, Pa. She was predeceased by her husband of 61 years, Karl Dornish, in 1989. She is survived by their three children, Karl Dornish Jr. of Winslow, Margaret Hammond Dornish of Carlsbad, Calif., and Helen Patricia Gesner of Barnstable, Mass. In addition to her children, she is survived by six grandchildren, Peter Gesner, Charles Gesner, Heidi Corvo, Deborah Gillis, Katherine DuGrenier and Martha Uribe; and nine great-grandchildren. After attending local schools, she entered Russell Sage College in Troy, N.Y. After her graduation in 1925, she became the academic secretary at National Cathedral School, Washington, D.C. There she married Karl Dornish, also of Saint Marys, Pa., in 1928. The Dornishes resided in Plainville, Conn., until Karl’s retirement, when they moved to Juno Beach, Fla. During the summer, the family resided on Swetts Pond, Orrington. A memorial service for family and friends will be held this summer at the Dornish home in Orrington.
