CASTINE – Helen Nickerson Bagot, 78, born on June 14, 1926, in Bangor, died Sept. 1, 2004, at a Blue Hill hospital due to complications from lung cancer. Helen was a graduate of the University of Maine, Class of 1948. In recent years, she and her husband had been sharing their time between Castine and Longboat Key, Fla. She is survived by her husband, Colonel Alfred W. Bagot of Castine; a son, William of Springfield, Va.; a son, Thomas of Palm Harbour, Fla.; and a niece, Lori Nickerson of Gilbert, Ariz. Helen is also survived by six grandchildren, Lt. Jared Churchill who is currently serving with the 1st Cavalry Division in Iraq; granddaughter, Laura, from Richmond, Va.; grandsons, Christopher and Brian Bagot; and granddaughters, Allison and Emile Bagot, all of Springfield, Va.; a son, Michael; and a daughter, Anne, predeceased her. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2004, at Our Lady of Holy Hope Catholic Church, Castine, with Father Richard Lembo, celebrant. Interment will be in Castine Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested contributions in Helen’s memory be made to the Bagaduce Ambulance Corps, P.O. Box 522 Castine, ME 04421 or to Hospice of Hancock County, 14 McKenzie Avenue, Ellsworth, ME 04605. Arrangements by Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home, 28 Elm St., Bucksport.
