BLUE HILL – Helen Ruth Beach, 89, passed away peacefully in her sleep Nov. 26, 2004, at the Penobscot Nursing Home. Helen was born Jan. 31, 1915, in Trenton, N.J. the daughter of William and Anne (Best) Stewart. Helen graduated from Simmons College in Boston where she trained to be a dietician. She was engaged in this work at Seaside Resort where she met her husband, Dr. Curtis Beach, former minister of the First Congregational Church UCC Church of Blue Hill. She was the perfect wife, helping to clear trees at Hancock Point while on their honeymoon. While supporting her husband and raising her children, she maintained her lifelong connection to the YMCA and served as director and sometimes as a summer camp dietician. After moving to Blue Hill, she joined the local garden club and reading group. She served as a Hospice volunteer in the company of Curtis and was his constant support and loving companion before and after his retirement. Helen is survived by a daughter, Ruth Anne Beach of Blue Hill; daughter-in-law, Judi Beach of Sedgwick; sister, JoAnne Stanley of Fort Meyers, Fla.; two grandchildren, Vanessa Beach of Bradford, Saul Wheeler of Reseda, Calif.; great-grandchild, Christopher Bontrager of Toms River, N.J.; and loving nieces and nephews. Helen was predeceased by her husband, Curtis; a brother, William Stewart; a daughter, Miriam Wheeler; a son, Stewart Beach; and a grandson, Ian Beach. Memorials may be made in Helen’s memory to the First Congregational UCC Church of Blue Hill, PO Box 444, Blue Hill, ME 04614.
