SANFORD – Helen Whitten Grafton, 60, passed away Tuesday, April 12, 2005, at her residence in Sanford. She was born April 6, 1945, in Rockland, the daughter of Leroy and Carolyn Elwell Whitten. She graduated Valedictorian from Thomaston High School. She also graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Maine with a B.A. degree in Mathematics. Retiring in March 2004, she had been employed for more than 36 years by the Federal Government working as a Computer Specialist in California, Virginia, Massachusetts, and Connecticut. She was a devoted mother. She especially enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She also liked driving throughout New England visiting friends and family. She enjoyed playing puzzle games on the computer, reading and knitting. She especially enjoyed the local casinos. She is survived by her son, Scott J. Grafton and wife, Stephanie, of Sanford, daughter, Beth L. Grafton of Leominister, Mass.; brothers, Lee Whitten and wife, Sue, of Thomaston, Robert Whitten and wife, Janet, of South Thomaston; sister, Patricia Wood and husband, Lawrence, of Rochester, N.H.; six nieces and nephews and several cousins. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, April 22, 2005, at the Hall & Davis Funeral Home, 35 Knox St., Thomaston. Pastor William Hickey will be officiating. Interment following at the Village Cemetery in Thomaston. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1 Main St., Suite 300, Topsham, ME 04086. Arrangements are entrusted to Hall & Davis Funeral Home, Thomaston.
