YORK HARBOR – Helena M. (Shorey) Carpenter, 87, died peacefully Sunday, Feb. 25, 2007, with her family members by her side at Sentry Hill. She was born Nov. 9, 1919, in Enfield, daughter of William V. and Myrtle (Ewing) Shorey. In 1938 she married her husband, Henry J. Carpenter of Lincoln, and together they lived in Dayton, Ohio, for several years before moving to York. She was a member of the First Parish Congregational Church in York. Mr. Carpenter died in 1971. She leaves a son, Gerald H. Carpenter and his wife, Carole Carpenter, of Auburn, Wash.; two daughters, Nancy Sinclair and her husband, Martin Sinclair, of Lisbon, N.H., and Ruth Doten and her husband, Glenn Doten, of Clearwater, Fla.; a brother, Burleigh V. Shorey of Milford; eight grandchildren and eight great-grand-children. Two sisters, Barbara Marie and Ona Jenkins; and a brother, William B. Shorey predeceased her. The memorial service for Mrs. Carpenter will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, March 1, at the First Parish Congregational Church, 180 York St., York. Burial will be at First Parish Cemetery in the spring.
