SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Helene C. Vail, 72, died Friday, Jan. 4, 2008, in the love of her family and friends. She was born May 24, 1935, in Springfield, Mass., the daughter of Edward and Helen O’Connor. She found her soul’s mate in Robert A. Vail, and now rejoins him. Helene, like her husband, lived each day with humor, serenity, acceptance and love. She was a teacher; first of schoolchildren, and then of all whom she met as she and Bob traveled the country. She lived in Connecticut, Vermont, North Carolina and most recently, Searsport, where she treasured time spent by the ocean and in the home that she and Bob considered their sanctuary. She will be deeply missed by her brother, Edward O’Connor of Springfield, Mass., and his wife, Christine, and their sons, Brian and Jeff; her sister-in-law, Muriel Bohne; cousins throughout the Springfield, Mass., area, and the many “dear ones” whose lives she touched. In accordance with her wishes, all services were private. Tazzini Funeral Home, Springfield, Mass., was entrusted with the arrangements.
