HAMPDEN – Helga Wally (Kamenz) Hatch, 78, wife of John B. Hatch, passed away Nov. 7, 2003, at her home in Hampden, surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born Oct. 25, 1925, in Berlin, Germany the daughter of Willi and Wally (Handel) Kamenz. Helga was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many. She greatly enjoyed cooking, sewing and spending time with her family and friends. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, John; her sons, Harold “Skip” and his wife, Sue, and Thomas and his wife, Celeste; her daughter, Elizabeth Hatch Patterson and her husband, John; and five grandchildren, Kelly, Adam, Meghan, Heather and Ashley. A Concelebrated funeral Mass will be held in honor of her life at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2003, at St. Matthews Catholic Church, 70 Western Ave., Hampden, with the Rev. George W. Hickey, principle celebrant and homilist, the Rev. Bob Vaillancourt, Pastor of St. Mattews, the Rev. Jean-Paul Labrie, former pastor of St. Matthews and the Rev. Joseph Arps, celebrants. Interment will be private at Lakeview Cemetery, Hampden. Helga’s family would like to extend a very special thanks to Dr. Audrey Garrett and Eva Almodovar, R.N., for the love and care they showed to Helga during her illness.
