BANGOR – Helma (Looke) Enman, 96, died April 8, 2006, at her home in Hermon. She was born Feb. 2, 1910, in Bangor, the daughter of Hanford M. and Maude (Freese) Looke. She was a long-time resident of Bangor but the last 15 months were spent at her home in Hermon. Helma attended Bangor Elementary School and graduated valedictorian, Class of 1928, Newport High School and was a 1930 graduate of Gilman Business College. She was employed as a secretary in the district office of the Equitable Life Assurance Co. for 45 years, retiring in 1975. She had been a member of Tuscan Chapter No. 148 OES, Bangor since 1947; was Worthy Matron in 1958; and in 1959 was grand representative to Ohio. She served as secretary 1971-1988 and in 1999, was awarded a lifetime membership. She was past president of the Past Matrons Association; a 25-year member and past high priesters and past district deputy of the Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem. Helma was a member of the Stearns Circle of Kings Daughters and a member of the Norumbega Club. She had been a former member of the Newport Methodist Church. Helma was an avid reader, loved to play cards, do crossword puzzles and especially SHOP! Helma loved to go and was willing to seek out new adventures with the Winslows. She will be dearly missed but the memories are plentiful. She is survived by a sister, Barbara Coop of Jonesboro, Ark.; nephews, David Doucette of Augusta, Dr. LB Keller and wife, Cindy, Greg Keller and wife, Ginger, Mark Keller and wife, Linda; all of Arkansas; a niece, Candi Kelly and husband, Michael, of Ohio; step-nephew, Lester Reid and wife, Elaine, of Nashua, N.H.; several great-nephews and great-nieces and cousins. A very special thanks to Barbara Cameron, a long time true friend. Helma also leaves behind many dear friends who have come to know and love her as part of their family. She was kind, fun loving, spirited and considerate. She was a treasured member of the Winslow family. Loved and cherished by Dora and Don, their daughters, Melissa and husband, Travis and Meredith and many other members of the family. She was loved by all that entered her life. A special thanks to the many that cared for and loved her, especially Linda Mae, Kathy and Joan. All those that were fortunate enough to know Helma, felt truly blessed to have had her in their lives. She touched the hearts of many. She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Warren A. Enman; sisters, Beatrice Looke, Ethel A. Pettingill and Virginia M. Reid. Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Tuesday, April 11, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, with the Rev. Robert T. Carlson officiating. Relatives and friends are welcome to call 2 p.m. until time of service Tuesday.
