STOCKHOLM – Hildur Rosalind (Olson) Doyle, 94, beloved wife of the late Newman Doyle, died April 8, 2006, at the New Sweden home of her close friends, after a brief illness. She was born Jan. 19, 1912, at New Sweden, the fourth daughter of Andrew and Hilda (Anderson) Olson. She attended New Sweden schools and graduated from Caribou High School in 1930. She then entered the nursing career field, training to be a nurse at the Cary Memorial Hospital in Caribou. Hildur worked as both a private duty nurse and at Cary Medical Center until she retired in 1956. It was at this time that she was married to Newman Doyle, after which she settled into the life of a farm wife and the wife of a state representative. Their time was divided between Augusta and the farm, but still during her husband’s time in politics, they had the opportunity to travel to such places as Copenhagen, Denmark, Rio De Janerio, Brazil and the west coast of the United States. In 1969, she returned to nursing and was one of the founders of VNA (Visiting Nurses of Aroostook). Hildur stayed with them until her husband sold the Fort Fairfield Road Farm in 1975, after which they summered at Madawaska Lake and wintered at Vero Beach, Fla. This arrangement was maintained until her husband’s death, after which she summered at Madawaska Lake and wintered at the home of good friends, Linda and Charles Newsome of New Sweden. Hildur was a lifetime and devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Stockholm. Hildur had no children, but was predeceased by three sisters, Alice (Olson) Sealander, Amy (Olson) Tracy and Ruth (Olson) Anderson. She is survived by many nieces and nephews, Melvin Sealander of Washington, D.C., Lloyd G. Anderson of California, Fredrick Sealander of Oregon, Hartley H. Anderson of Massachusetts, Wilfred Sealander of California, Martin A. Anderson of Massachusetts, William H. Sealander of California, Natalie Anderson Dammtrane of Washington, Geneva Sealander Dickenson of Florida, Phyllis Anderson Straneham of Massachusetts, Leland Sealander of California, Birdina Anderson Peterson of North Carlolina, Russell Sealander of California, Shirley Sealander Griffeth of Caribou, Everett Tracy of Florida, Edith Tracy Dickenson Dewitt of California. Family and friends may call 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Lancaster Morgan Funeral Home, 11 Clover St., Caribou. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 12, at the First Baptist Church of Stockholm, with the Rev. John Walsh, pastor officiating. Interment will be held at a later date at Evergreen Cemetery, Caribou and will be announced by the funeral home. Donations in Hildur’s memory may be made to the First Baptist Church of Stockholm Memorial Fund. Envelopes will be available at both the church and the funeral home.
