LAMOINE and ELLSWORTH – Henry Lewis Stagg Jr., 94, died Saturday, Jan. 17, 2004, at Courtland Rehabilitation and Living Center, where he had resided for the past five years. He was born Sept. 8, 1909, in Bridgeport, Conn., the son of Henry Lewis and Harriet Lavinia (Phillips) Stagg. Henry, known as Harry to his friends, retired to Lamoine in 1974, after 35 years working for the Electrolux Corporation in Connecticut. Harry and his family lived in Cos Cob where he served the community as a volunteer fireman and ambulance driver. Henry, known as “Hank” to amateur radio ham operators and “MARS” affiliate members, was on the “air” using his W1TEI call letters until recently. Henry was a member of Lygonia Lodge No. 40, AF & AM in Ellsworth, and was also a member of the Lamoine Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. Henry was predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Evelyn (Young) Stagg; his parents; his stepfather, Harry Cutler; and his granddaughter, Priscilla Marion Baker. He is survived by three daughters, Evelyn Milner of Worcester, Mass., Charlotte Lee of Harrison, N.Y., Ashanka (Virginia) Stagg of San Francisco, Calif.; a son, Henry Lewis Stagg III of Stamford, Conn.; two granddaughters, Elizabeth Baker of Manchester by the Sea, Mass., and Margo Thompson of West Boylston, Mass.; two great-grandsons, Conor and Kyle Thompson; a good friend, Mikhail Gaudette; and several other family members. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Lamoine Baptist Church, 24 Lamoine Beach Road, Lamoine, with the Rev. David Henry, pastor, and officers and members of Lygonia Lodge officiating. Spring interment will be at the East Lamoine Cemetery. A memorial service will be held this summer during the family’s annual reunion.
