MACHIASPORT – Herbert L. Wood Sr., 85, beloved father, died June 17, 2004, at Down East Community Hospital after an extended illness. He was born April 21, 1919, in Machiasport, the son of the late George and Lottie (Davis) Wood. Herbert served in the Army during World War II, receiving a Bronze Star for his service. He was a life-long resident of Machiasport and worked as a lobster fisherman. He enjoyed hunting, trapping, and fishing. Herbert is survived by his children; daughter, Donna Williamson and husband, Bruce; son, Herbert Wood Jr. and wife, Elaine; daughter, Cheryl Wright and husband, Milton; son, Barry Wood Sr. and wife, Jolene; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters-in-law; and special friends, Arthur Nicely and Mary Albee. Herbert was predeceased by his wife of 54 years, Elizabeth B. Wood, March 13, 2001; brothers, Clarence, Donald, Barney, Steven, Fred, Arthur and Bert Wood; and a grandson, Joseph Craig Wood. Calling hours will take place 1-3 p.m. Sunday, June 20, 2004, at Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Monday, June 21, 2004, at the Larrabee Baptist Church in Machiasport with Pastor William Holmes officiating. Burial will follow at the Church Hill Cemetery in Machiasport.
