SOUTH GOULDSBORO – Holmes E. Briggs, 85, died Tuesday, March 29, 2005, at a Bangor hospital. He was born Feb. 4, 1920, in South Gouldsboro, the son of William L. and Miriam B. (Pinkham) Briggs. Holmes was a veteran of World War II, during which time he served in the U.S. Coast Guard. He was a member of Laborer’s Union No. 547 in Connecticut. Holmes is survived by two daughters, Betty Babcock and her husband, Terry, of Glenburn, Debbie Briggs of South Gouldsboro; three granddaughters, Heidi Botello and her husband, Charlie, Heather Blanchard, all of Ohio, Wendy Parker of Searsport; four great-grandchildren, Ali and Alex Botello, Charlee Simpson, and Kelsey Parker; a twin brother, Homer Briggs and his wife, Helen, of Groton, Conn.; one sister, Flo Gross of Washington; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Holmes was predeceased by his wife, Eva M. (Tuplin) Briggs; one sister, Wilhemena Trundy. Graveside services will be held at the South Gouldsboro Cemetery at a date to be announced in the spring. Arrangements are by Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, Ellsworth.
