JACKMAN – Howard V. Hughey 87, passed away Sunday, April 11, 2004, at the Jackman Region Health Center, surrounded by his family. He was born March 11, 1917, in Lowelltown, the son of Henry and Bernice (Orr) Hughey. He served with the U.S. Army for four years, two of which was with the Engineer Corps on the railroads in India. Howard was a Registered Maine Guide, a carpenter and woodsman. He had worked for various woods operations and retired from Scott Paper Co. after 15 years of employment. He loved the woods, hunting, fishing and trapping. Howard also loved playing his violin and built one after his retirement. He was predeceased by four brothers, Earl, Harry, Raymond and Tommy; and a sister, Mary. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Christine (Haggan) Hughey of Jackman; a son, Michael H. Hughey of Tucson, Ariz.; two daughters, Marlene Stowell and her husband, Andy, of Grand Terrace, Calif., and Wanda Chaisson and her husband, Paul, of Jackman; three grandchildren, Jocelyn Stowell of Torrance Calif., Jason Stowell of New York City, N.Y., and Samantha Chaisson of Jackman; a twin sister, Doris Chase of Brownville Jct.; an older sister, Pearl Wilson of Jackman; several nieces and nephews. A funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Friday, April 16, at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Jackman. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make a memorial contribution to the Jackman Region Health Center, 376 Main St., Jackman, ME. 04945 or to St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, P.O. Box 338, Jackman, ME 04945. Arrangements are by Giberson Funeral Home, 18 River St., Bingham.
