BANGOR – Hoyt Edward Shuman, beloved husband of Marion Church Shuman, died Aug. 21, 2006, at the Maine Veterans’ Home, Bangor. He was born July 17, 1916, in Medomak, the son of Merchant and Albina (Osier) Shuman. Hoyt was a graduate of Camden High School, Class of 1934. He was employed by First National stores as store manager, district and zone supervisor, retiring in l978. He served in the Army in World War II and was stationed at Walter Reed Hospital, Hawaii and Okinawa. He was a member of the American Legion and a past member of the ACBL. He was an avid bridge player and enjoyed playing duplicate bridge with his wife and friends. He also loved to travel and did so until poor health made that impossible. He is survived by his wife of 67 years; his daughters, Carol and her husband, William Knight, of Bangor and Elaine Tardiff of Milo; his granddaughters, Capt. Joline Tardiff of Portland and Michelle and her husband, Tim Melanson, of Ottawa, Canada. He is also survived by several nieces and a nephew. The family thanks the nurses and staff at St. Joseph Hospital and at the Maine Veterans’ Home for their care and concern. As per his request, there will be no visiting hours. Graveside services will be held 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 25, at Lawndale Cemetery, Old Town. Remembrances may be made to the charity of one’s choice. Arrangements by Direct Cremation of Maine.
