BREWER – Hugh Herman Grant, 69, died Oct. 10, 2005, at a Bangor hospital. He was born March 31, 1936, in Cherryfield, the son of Herman Jr. and Flora (Tracey) Grant. Hugh moved to Ellsworth at an early age and graduated from Ellsworth High School in 1953. Hugh joined the U.S. Air Force in 1953 and served with honor until 1967. He worked for many years in the oil business. After his retirement he worked as a security officer. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his stepfather, Richard Merritt. He is survived by his companion and friend, Sandra J. DePhilippo and their son, Shane. Shane brought great joy to his father’s life. He is also survived by Sandra’s daughters, Christy and her children, Nathan and Piper Kane and Robin and her children, Nicholas and Hailey Luce. He is also survived by his special brother, Bruce, his brother, Arnold and sister, Patricia Kelley of North Carolina. Hugh will be remembered for his Downeast humor and love for his family and friends. He will be missed more than words can describe. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 14 at Brookings-Smith, Clark-Piper Chapel, 55 South Main St., Brewer, with the Rev. Clayton Blackstone, officiating. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until time of service. Interment will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Bangor.
