BANGOR – Ida F. Schiro, 99, wife of the late Albert J. Schiro, died Jan. 28, 2006, at a local healthcare facility. She was born April 14, 1906, in Nashua, N.H., the second daughter of Samuel and Lillian Cohen. She spent her early years in Portsmouth, N.H. Ida and Albert were married in 1930 and were married for 64 years. In her younger years, she attended the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, Mass. where she studied piano and violin. She was a member of the Harbanick Quartet. Her vocal and piano excellence made her the “life of the party.” During the World War II she helped her husband at Standard Shoes. Ida was a life member of Beth Israel Sisterhood, St. Joseph Healthcare and Eastern Maine Medical Center Auxiliaries. She was a past president of the Beth Israel Sisterhood, a life member of the Hadassah and a member of the Hadassah Study Group. Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Lawrence and Rachel Schiro; and her daughter, Connie Kelsey, all of Bangor; four grandchildren and their spouses, Daniel and Judy Kelsey of Lawrenceville, Ga., Susan Schiro and James Hatch of Rockland, Richard and Gail Kelsey of Bedford, N.Y. and Jeffrey Schiro of Los Angeles, Calif.; five great-grandchildren, Rebecca, Hannah, Jessica, Samantha and Douglas; many nieces and nephews; and her exceptional caregivers, Karen, Jane, Gloria, Margaret, Inez, Shirley, Pat, Julia, Elsie, Helen and Mary. Ida was predeceased by her son-in-law, Jack Kelsey; and sister, Eunice Cohen; and sister and brother-in-law, Bess and Eugene Cummings. Funeral services will be held noon Monday, Jan. 30, at the Jewish Funeral Chapel, Center Street, Bangor. Interment will be in Beth Israel Cemetery. Memorial week will be observed 7-9 p.m. Monday, Jan. 30 and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday Jan. 31 and Feb. 1, at 428 Garland St., Bangor.
