MILBRIDGE – Irene M. (Ray) Chipman, 71, wife of Harold W. Chipman Jr., died Aug. 8, 2004, at an Ellsworth hospital. She was born Feb. 17, 1933, at Milbridge, the daughter of Merrill Forest and Julia Emma (Wallace) Ray. Irene worked for several years packing fish. She also was one of the first employees of KELCO Industries in Milbridge, where she was a dedicated employee for more than 25 years retiring in 1989, because of her health. She was a member of the Milbridge Grange for many years and a member of the Auxiliary of the V.F.W. Post 109 of Ellsworth. Irene was also an assistant leader with the Girl Scouts. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Harold W. Chipman Jr.; six children, John Chipman and wife, Cathy, of Milbridge, Linda Robbins and husband, Gary, of Harrington, Roger “Cappy” Chipman and special friend, Dawn Picariello, and Raymond Chipman and special friend, Sandy Trafton, all of Milbridge, Yvonne Kurtz and husband, John, of Surry, and Debbie Brooks and husband, Robert, of Brookfield, Conn.; 10 grandchildren, Forrest and Darren Robbins, Chris Chipman and wife, Monica, Jason Chipman and fianc?e, Amity Hammond, Danielle Fink and husband, William, Cory and Ryan Kurtz, Christina, Bobby and Katrina Brooks; two sisters, Ivor Winslow of Milbridge and Florida, and Lillian Caravan of Norwalk, Conn.; her aunt, Augusta Beal; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Angie Merchant. Irene will also be remembered by many friends. At her request there will be no visiting hours. A graveside memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 12, 2004, at Pinegrove Cemetery, Cherryfield, with the Rev. Ambrose Rolfe officiating.
