PALM DESERT, CALIF. – Irene Alice Spencer, 94, formerly of Palm Desert died Dec. 15, 2003. She was born Nov. 23, 1909, to James and Ula Adams Spencer of Brewer. She was a 1927 graduate of Brewer High School and a member of the North Brewer-Eddington United Methodist Church. She enlisted in the Marines on May 10, 1943, with her twin sister, Madeline and was a member of the Women’s Marine Association, which was the highlight of her life. Irene is survived by her sister, Reva Hollis of Brewer; her nephews and nieces, William Hollis and his wife, Connie, Gary Hollis, James Spencer III, Forrest Spencer and his wife, Karen, and Deborah Largay and her husband, Tim; eight grandnieces and grandnephews, four great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews. She was predeceased by her twin sister, Madeline; two brothers, James Spencer and Forrest Spencer; and her sister, Gail Spencer. Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 9, 2004, at Riverside Memorial Cemetery.
