ALTON – Irma Louise (Lincoln) Ellis, 75, passed away peacefully on July 14, 2004, at a Bangor hospital. She was born Jan. 16, 1929, in Atkinson, the daughter of Lula (Hitchborn) and Leslie P. Lincoln. Irma graduated from LaGrange High School with the Class of 1946. She was employed at the University of Maine for 18 years. Irma enjoyed working in her garden, playing cards and board games with her children and grandchildren. Irma was also an avid knitter and also enjoyed cooking, camping, fishing, and enjoyed watching her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren’s ballgames. Irma was predeceased by her husband of 39 years, Dana P. Ellis. She is survived and will be deeply missed by her eight loving children and their spouses, Edward and his wife, Brenda, of Searsport, Daniel and his wife, Linda, of Levant, Richard and his wife, Brenda, of Alton, Diane Laliberte and her husband, Edward, of Alton, Shirley Harris of Alton, Barbara Kitchen and her husband, William, of Alton, Mildred Leland and her husband, Robert, of Alton, Mark and his wife, Sherrie, of Alton; her 19 grandchildren, her 20 great grandchildren. Irma is also survived by her eight sisters, Blanche Barnes of Alton, Isabelle Weston of Waterville, Lois Strout and her husband, Paul, of Bangor, Priscilla McPheters of Brunswick, Alice Dolley of Passadumkeag, Carolyn Reed and her husband, Robert, of Ellsworth, Evelyn Robbins and her husband, Ralph, of Winslow, Doris Whitaker and her husband, Jerry, of Windsor; and her four brothers, Charles and his wife, June, of Orono, Leslie Jr. and his wife, Susan, of LaGrange, Gerald and his wife, Faith, of Dixmont, and David and his wife, Wanda, of Old Town, and sisters-in-law, Mary Ellis, Joyce Ellis, Regina Hamm, all of Alton. She was a special aunt to more than 50 nieces and nephews as well her second family, the Brooks family. Irma will also be sadly missed by her loving poodle, Toby. Friends may call 6-9 p.m. Friday, July 16, at the Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, July 17 at the United Methodist Church, 629 Stillwater Ave., Old Town. Graveside services will be at the Alton Cemetery, Bennoch Road, Alton. A reception and celebration of Irma’s life will be held immediately following the funeral and graveside service at the Alton Methodist Church Hall, Bennoch Road, Alton, where Irma was a long time member.
