LAMOINE – Irving Richard Wellman, 89, went to be with the Lord July 28, 2007, at Maine Coast Memorial Hospital, Ellsworth. He was born Aug. 2, 1917, in Waltham, Mass, the son of Irving Sylvester and Esther Mae (Rice) Wellman. Irving served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II and was stationed on the USS Bouford Cutter ship. He worked for New England Telephone and AT&T for 35 years. Irving’s personal mission was to provide for his family and to help others. He always thought of others before himself. He is survived by his beloved wife and best friend of 65 years, Hazel (Bennett) Wellman; five sons, Irving R. Wellman Jr. and wife, Judi, of Duxbury, Mass., Steven M. Wellman of Florida, Gordon L. Wellman and wife, Susan, of Litchfield, N.H., Jeffrey S. Wellman and wife, Roxanne, of Marlborough, Mass., and Mark C. Wellman and wife, Sandra, of Freemont, N.H.; two daughters, Judith M. Mittan and husband, Frank, of Bellingham, Mass., and Cheryl A. Mitchell and husband, Paul, of Corona, Calif.; 19 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; one brother, Lloyd Wellman of Bridgeton; one sister, Margaret Douglas of Waltham, Mass.; and many nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to call 10-11 a.m. Tuesday, July 31, at Family Bible Church, 460 High St., Ellsworth, where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. with the Rev. Richard Rockwell officiating. Interment will be at East Lamoine Cemetery, East Lamoine. In gratitude for the wonderful care that Irving received, contributions may be given to Maine Coast Memorial Hospital, care of the Hospice Suite, 50 Union St., Ellsworth, ME 04605.
