BANGOR – Irving Vaughn Joy III, 51, died Friday, Feb. 29, 2008, surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 25, 1956, at Fort Bragg, N.C., the son of Barbara (Sanborn) and Irving Joy Jr. of Orrington. He traveled with his parents while his father was in the military. He truly enjoyed the time he spent with his grandparents on Cranberry Island. He attended Orrington schools and graduated from Brewer High School. Irving married Teresa Klekotta and has one daughter, Ellen Joy; two sons, Patrick and William Joy; three grandsons, Maximus, Sirus and Alex Joy; and a granddaughter, Sadie. He was employed at Eastern Maine Medical Center for the past 31 years as an HVAC tech, working with a great crew that he considered his second family. Irving was happiest riding his Harley with his wife, Teresa, taking trips all over the state, discovering new places and meeting new people along the way. He was an avid collector of Hot Wheels for many years and loved showing and sharing his prize possessions with everyone, especially his grandchildren. Surviving are his wife of 29 years, Teresa of Bangor; a son, Patrick of Hampden; daughter, Ellen; son, William “Bill,” both of Bangor; four grandchildren, Maximus, Sadie, Alex and Sirus; his mother and father, Barbara and Irving Joy Jr. of Orrington; one brother, Jason of Massachusetts; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Sally and Bill Klekotta of Texas; numerous brothers-in-laws, sisters-in-law, aunts and cousins. Irving will be sorely missed by his many friends and special friends, Joyce, Bob, Don, Corey, Stan, Greg and Bill; and especially his menagerie of pets, Butchie, Sunny, Princess, Maggie, Katie, Shortman, Jaws and his lap bunny, Thumper. “It is too hard to summarize the great loss that I will feel with Irv’s passing. He was my best friend and my rock; with so many plans unfinished, I am lost. Please take time each day to think of him and be kind to all animals, as that was his practice,” lovingly, Teresa. Relatives and friends are welcome to call 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, March 4, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where a service to celebrate this gentle giant’s life will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 5, with the Rev. Dr. Rex H. Garrett, director of chaplaincy services at Eastern Maine Medical Center and the Rev. Kathy Macedo, pastor of Grace United Methodist Church of Bangor, officiating. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at Brookings-Smith Family Center, 163 Center St., Bangor, immediately after the service Wednesday. Spring interment will be held at Marston Cemetery, Orrington.
