DAMARISCOTTA – Isabel F. Rector Russell died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003 at Coves Edge Nursing Facility in Damariscotta. Born in Boston, Nov.r 1, 1917, she was the daughter of Frederick P. and Kathryn Roth Rector. Educated in the Boston area, Mrs. Russell graduated from Needham High School in 1934 and Massachusetts School of Art, Boston in 1938. Her first teaching assignment was as art director at Keene State Teachers College in New Hampshire. A few years later she became art director for the Wolfeboro schools in Wolfeboro, N.H. She met her husband George who was in the Army stationed at Governors Island, New York and later she became the executive secretary to the dean of New York University. After leaving New York, she and her husband moved to Meredith, N.H. and later moved to Brooklin, where she became Mrs. E. B. White’s secretary. She worked for the Whites a total of ten years. After working for the Whites, Mrs. Russell wrote the book “Memoir of E. B. White and Katherine White”. This book brought about a wide correspondence with people across the country. Mrs. Russell moved to the Chase Point Assisted Living Facility in Damariscotta from Mirror Lake, N. H. Predeceased by her husband, George and her sister Frances Sewall, Mrs. Russell is survived by one brother, Frederick Rector and his wife, Marian of Thomaston; six nephews, Rick Rector and his wife, Karen, of Camden, Christopher Rector and his wife, Elizabeth, of Thomaston, Timothy Rector and his wife, Mary, of Waterville, Frederick Sewall of Needham, Mass., Ralph Sewall and his wife, Carol, of Natick, Mass., Brian Sewall and his wife, Debra, of Needham, Mass.; one niece, Melissa Bourque and her husband, Michael, of Portland; seven great-nieces and five great-nephews. A memorial service will be announced in the spring. Arrangements are under the direction of Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock St., Rockland.
