MEDWAY – Ivan “Tippy” Clinton Kinney, 64, husband of Phyllis (Knights) Kinney, passed away Oct 24, 2005, at his home. During the early morning hours, surrounded by family, God saw his plan to call Ivan home after several battles with cancer. This was not the healing we prayed for, but the one that God has chosen. He was born April 13, 1941, in Eaton, the son of the Rev. Clinton and Geneva (McLaughlin) Kinney. Ivan enjoyed being around his family and friends and spending time boating, driving his antique car, going to car shows with his ’48 Plymouth, and the special time with his little lady kitty, “Ashes”, who has been his therapy cat through all four bouts with cancer. Ivan graduated from East Grand “Danforth” High School in 1960 and was employed by Great Northern Paper Company for 38 years, retiring in 1999. In addition to his beloved wife of 43 years, Phyllis, who was also one of his best friends, he is survived by two daughters, Ivana Kinney and Dawn Fitzgerald and her husband, Michael, of Putnam Station, N.Y.; three granddaughters who were the light of his life, Nekia and Kyrie Hafford and Michaela Fitzgerald; one grandson who was just pappa’s boy, Michael Fitzgerald. He is also survived by his dad, the Rev. Clinton Kinney and his wife, Evelyn, of Danforth; a brother, Alan Kinney and his wife, Linda, of Molunkus; three sisters, Joan Scanlin and her husband, Winston, of Easton, Jean Dwyer and her husband, Emery, of Molunkus and Jo-Ellen Scott and her husband, Greg, of Danforth; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother, Geneva (McLaughlin) Kinney; a brother, Dean Kinney; and a very special little granddaughter, Meagan Fitzgerald. The family would like to take this time to thank all those that were there to help and a special thanks to the Hospice staff for their support. Friends may call any time after 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 26, at Glad Tidings, Church of God, Medway. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday at the church, with the Rev. Robert L. Phillips III officiating. Interment will be in Eaton Cemetery, Danforth. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Glad Tidings, Church of God, Medway.
