JACOB G. REIFSCHNEIDER PITTSFIELD – Jacob G. Reifschneider, 90, died peacefully Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2008, at Sebasticook Valley Hospital, Pittsfield, with family at his side. Jacob was born Dec. 28, 1917, in Culbertson, Neb., the son of Jacob and Charlotte (Felker) Reifschneider. The family moved to Milwaukee in 1921, where he was educated. He also attended the University of Wisconsin and was employed at Trostel Tanning Co., as an apprentice and later as an upper tannery supervisor. In 1952, Jacob was employed by Irving Tanning Co., Hartland and moved to Pittsfield with his family. He retired from the tannery after 30 and one half years. He served in World War II in the Navy as an aerographers mate petty officer second class for two and one half years. Community service included membership in the Kiwanis Club, Cub Scout Leader and Boy Scouts of America Council. He was also a member of VFW Post No. 8835 of Winslow. His favorite sports were fishing, golfing and swimming at Colby College. He is survived by his loving wife, Dolores (Durand) Reifschneider; his two sons, John Reifschneider and his wife, Barbara, of North Carolina, and David Reifschneider and his wife, Martha Kleinschmidt Reifschneider, of Maryland; his two daughters, Ellen Reifschneider and her husband, Michael Sikora, of Wisconsin, and Sue Ball and her husband, Lary, of Cape Cod, Mass.; seven grandchildren, Erik, Erin, Kevin, Tobin, Laurel, Trevor and Nicholas; six great-granddaughters; two sisters, Emma Geschke and Clare Pryzbylinski; and one brother, Harold Reifschneider, all of Wisconsin. Receiving of friends will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, at Shorey-Nichols Funeral Home, 191 Hartland Ave., Pittsfield, where a funeral service will be held 11 a.m. with the Rev. Scott Jones officiating. Interment will be immediately after at Village Cemetery, Peltoma Avenue, Pittsfield.
