PRESQUE ISLE – Jacqueline H. Greaves, 80, passed away peacefully June 6, 2008, surrounded by her children, at a Presque Isle hospital. She was born Feb. 27, 1928, in Houlton, the daughter of John and Hazel (Wentworth) Hall. She was a graduate of Houlton High School and Ricker College. She graduated from the University of Maine – Presque Isle, with a degree in education, after raising five children. Jacqueline taught at Presque Isle High School from 1971 to 1994. While at Presque Isle High School, she was class advisor, Flag and Drill Team advisor and helped establish Right 2 Read in SAD No. 1, and was also a member of the Maine Reading Association. She was an adjunct teacher at the University of Maine – Presque Isle from 1992 to 1994, and also at Northern Maine Community College from 1992 to 2001. Jacqueline’s other contributions to her community included former chair of Episcopal Churchwomen; along with her husband, co-founded Presque Isle Humane Society; founded the first senior citizens group in Presque Isle and co-authored three pictorial histories of Aroostook County communities. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Stan Greaves; and her brother, John Wentworth Hall. Surviving her are a daughter, Sandra Gauvin and her husband, Ray, of Mapleton, and their children, Michele and Chris Gauvin; a son, John Greaves and his wife, Bonnie, of Presque Isle, and their children, Joe and his wife, Kristi, and Andy Greaves; a son, Tom Greaves and his wife, Micheline, of Presque Isle and their children, Danielle Hamlin and her husband, Dean, and their son, Dylan and Emily, and Michael Greaves; a son, Bill Greaves and his wife, Melanie, of Littleton, and their children, Brandon and Scott; a daughter, Jody Tompkins and her husband, Mark, of Presque Isle, and their children, Sarah, Melissa and Jennifer; and a brother-in-law, Frederick J. Greaves and his wife, Clara, of San Salvador, El Salvador. Funeral services will be conducted 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 10, at St. John’s Episcopal Church, Second Street, Presque Isle, with the Rev. Robert Smith officiating. Relatives and friends may call 1 p.m. until the time of the service at the church. Interment will be at Fairmount Cemetery, Presque Isle.
