ELLSWORTH – James C. “Big Jim” Camber, 74, of Ellsworth, died at his home Feb. 8, 2004. He was born Dec. 20, 1929, in Lamoine, the son of Charles and Priscilla (Linscott) Camber. He was raised in Hancock County where he spent his whole life. He was a member of the U.S. Army and a veteran of the Korean War. He worked in the woods and with blueberries throughout his life. He enjoyed selling fruits, vegetables and wreaths beside the road to all his local friends of Ellsworth, Southwest Harbor and Swans Island. His gardening was always his pride. He was well known for his coaching baseball, softball, Little League, Sr. League and adult leagues in the Ellsworth area and Swans Island. He is survived by his best friend, his dog Fritz; his companion, Joy May; five children, Michael and his wife, Linda, of Swans Island, James of Ellsworth, Jeff and his wife, Lisa, of Ellsworth, Melinda and her companion, Steve, of Dexter and Melissa of California; a brother, Harold Camber of Waldoboro; a sister, Ruth Detloff of Arizona; a close aunt, Kathy Bridges of Hancock; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
